SF - Berkeley Nerds

Snuck up on this old timer with almost the most awesome jean jacket of all time (the most awesome would have had the original Enterprise) on my walk home.  It reminded me of the rich nerd culture in Berkeley.  It's too much for me to go into here, but you can trace many elements in today's video games, sci-fi and fantasy culture back to Berkeley (and the Bay Area in general).  When I was a child and completely insane about Star Trek, I remember my parents taking me to a Star Trek store in a shopping plaza off of Shattuck.  It was almost overwhelming for my young mind at the time.  I even remember they had some of Leonard Nimoy's books where he tried to distance himself from the Spock character.
