Oh yeah, I totally forgot. CJLO, Concordia University's radio station, available on line and at 1690 AM in Montreal and a bit farther out, provides the DJs and the music for Fantasia. It's always pretty rocking, but there has been an absence of good hip-hop. That has changed this year as I was very happy to be greeted by some rich thumping beats before Ip Man 2 and Gallants.
The DJ booth is at the back left of the theatre and I went up there to give my thanks to the DJ. He's called DJ Mister Vee and you can hear his show Beats from the East on Saturdays from 10 PM to Midnight (which is perfect because all the good hip-hop on CISM goes from 6 to 10 PM on Saturday nights. You can also download his shows as podcasts and listen to them at your leisure.
Keep bumping, DJ Mister Vee!

Thanks, brother! Was nice to meet you! Hip Hop is alive, especially at Fantasia!
No, thank you! :) You know what I realized I was grateful for when I read your comment? College fucking radio. Where the hell would I have been back in the day without KALX in Berkeley, CITR in Vancouver and CFUV in Victoria? It is really awesome to know that it is alive and kicking today, despite (or rather now in complement to) the internet opening up so much access to good music. Keep up the good work!
No doubt! I was also brought up on the same kind of stuff...CKUT's Masters at Work and Weekend Groove (which both still exist today). As a youngster too young to go out anywhere cool, I was glued to those 2 shows every weekend and got inspired!
Fast-fwd 15 years later...wow, I'm doing the same kind of thing!
